anti-obesity drugs require one of the following:
Person has a BMI (body mass index) greater than or equal to 30.
The person has a BMI greater than or equal to 27 but less than 30 and two or more of the following risk factors:
- Coronary heart disease
- Dyslipidemia
- Hypertension
- Sleep apnea
- Type II diabetes mellitus
Most anti-obesity drugs are approved for weight loss in adults who meet the following criteria:
- The patient is 18 years of age or older.
- The patient is not pregnant or nursing.
- The patient does not have a history of an eating disorder (e.g., anorexia, bulimia).
- The patient has not had bariatric surgery.
