Phendimetrazine for Weight Loss: Short-Term Use and Safety
Phendimetrazine is a sympathomimetic controlled medication labeled for short-term use as an adjunct to caloric restriction in selected patients. It is not a substitute for comprehensive obesity care or a chronic GLP-1 medicine.

Short-term means short-term
The label describes use for a few weeks. Longer or repeated exposure is not automatically appropriate, and the limited benefit must be weighed against cardiovascular and dependence risks.
Before prescribing

Important safety considerations
- Do not combine with other anorectic medicines unless specifically supported and directed by an authorized prescriber.
- Avoid use with contraindicated cardiovascular conditions, uncontrolled hypertension and within the specified period after MAO inhibitors.
- Possible effects include palpitations, increased blood pressure, restlessness, insomnia and dependence.
- Seek urgent care for chest pain, fainting, severe shortness of breath or neurologic symptoms.
Emergency warning: Seek urgent care for severe allergic symptoms, chest pain, fainting, severe or persistent abdominal pain, inability to keep fluids down, signs of dehydration, or other potentially serious symptoms.
